Home Reading Sessions

Doorstep Library’s Home Reading Sessions take place every week during term time. A pair of trained and vetted volunteers will visit the family in the home or on the doorstep, to read and share books and stories with children. The volunteers will bring a backpack filled with books and two stools for the children to sit on during the session. We also encourage parents/carers to get involved in the reading sessions, leaving behind a selection of books for children and parents to continue sharing together.

When do they take place?

Our Home Reading Sessions take place on a set evening a week during term time (Monday, Tuesday or Thursday) between 4.30 pm – 7 pm, and each session lasts approximately 20 minutes. Every family is visited by a pair of trained Home Reading Volunteers, who aim to read with five families during their weekly volunteering session.
