Get free online reading support for your child
In our online reading sessions, a pair of trained and vetted volunteers will visit your family online in your home to share stories, and explore the magic of books and reading. As part of the service, your child will be posted a brand new book, tailored to their interests, twice per term. The volunteers share these or use e-books during the sessions.
Who can join the reading sessions?
Any child living in London between the ages of 5-11 can join our reading sessions. If you have multiple children, siblings can join and read together, or can choose to read separately on alternate weeks. We also offer an in-person service for those living in specific London boroughs: Westminster, Camden, Kensington & Chelsea, Lambeth and Hammersmith & Fulham.
How and when do our reading sessions take place?
Online Reading Sessions are conducted on Zoom via a computer or mobile device. They take place on a set evening a week during term time (Monday, Tuesday or Thursday) between 4.30 pm – 6.30 pm, and each session lasts approximately 20 minutes. Every family is visited by a pair of trained Online Reading Volunteers, who aim to read with 4 families during their weekly volunteering session.

How much do the reading sessions cost?
All of our sessions are completely free of charge. Doorstep Library is a charitable organisation, and we rely on the generous donations of our supporters and funders to keep our services free.
