Doorstep Library’s Online Reading Corner offers Online Reading Sessions weekly during term time. A pair of trained and vetted volunteers will visit a family online in their home to share stories, and explore the magic of books and reading with children. As part of the service, children are posted a brand new gift book, tailored to their interests, twice per term. The volunteers share these or use e-books during the sessions. Online Reading Sessions are conducted on Zoom with families via a computer or mobile device.
When do they take place?
Our Online Reading Sessions take place on a set evening a week during term time (Monday, Tuesday or Thursday) between 4.30 pm – 6.30 pm, and each session lasts approximately 20 minutes. Every family is visited by a pair of trained Online Reading Volunteers, who aim to read with three families during their weekly volunteering session.

Online Read and Play groups:
We also run Online Read and Play groups; drop-in sessions for children aged 0-4 and their parents/carers. These Early Years-focused group sessions are hosted by two of our trained and vetted volunteers and offer a chance for families to come together and enjoy sharing stories, songs and play as a group. Participants can join other young children and parents/carers in an engaging and interactive session where the aim is to have fun!
When do they take place?
Our group sessions are hosted by a pair of Online Reading Volunteers and take place every Wednesday morning at 10:30 am and Wednesday afternoon at 5.30 pm during term time. Each session lasts approximately 25-30 minutes. These sessions are drop in but families must register their interest in advance.
