Book a Visit

If you have a child aged 0-11 and would like to find out if Doorstep Library can visit you, or if you would like to enquire on behalf of someone else, please use the postcode checker below. Please note that we can currently offer home visits to families living in specific areas of Westminster, Camden, Hammersmith and Fulham, and Lambeth. However, if you live outside of those areas, or indeed outside of those boroughs, we may be able to offer you our online reading service instead. Use the postcode checker below to find out more.

We are continuing to grow and expand into new areas so if we can’t visit you now – we might be able to soon. Please check back from time to time.

Where do you live? Please insert your postcode here.

Unfortunately, we are currently only operating on-the-ground reading services in the London area. However, if you would still like to receive our reading services we may be able to visit you virtually. Find out more about our Online Reading Corner by emailing our Online Team Leader –  Martin – martin@doorsteplibrary.org.uk

What can Doorstep Library do for you?

Each week, our volunteers visit families at home or online to share books with children and parents. They spend around 20 minutes reading stories together, either inside the home, outside on the doorstep or online. By getting to know the children, from young babies up to pre-teens, they help them discover the books that will spark their enthusiasm and love of reading.

Our volunteers have all been interviewed, DBS checked and trained on how to best support your children to develop a love of reading. You can imagine a Doorstep Library volunteer a bit like a personal librarian for children – a friendly and consistent person who turns up each week with a variety of books they have carefully selected for the children they will be visiting. We believe we are always guests in families’ homes, which means our volunteers will always ask if the visit is convenient – parents can say no at any point.

Our sessions are completely free, we enjoy reading with your children as much as they hopefully will with us! In addition to providing books tailored to your child’s interests and sharing stories together, Doorstep Library volunteers can also offer a friendly face and listening ear to parents and offer information on useful local services and activities.

You can find some helpful resources and tips for reading with your children, as well as some information on useful local services on our Parent’s Resources page.
